The Resource Catalogue
The Modding Resource Catalogue (MRC) contains links to gaming resources like guides and tutorials, mods, patches, tools, support venues and other general information. MRC’s focus is on content from sources like Discord Servers, Github sites and repositories, personal websites, wikis, online videos and Google documents. While MRC does contain some Nexus resources, the focus is on non-Nexus contents.
In a Nutshell
MRC was initially created with just Fallout 4 resources in mind, but in May 2023 it was restructured to handle multiple games with Starfield being the second game supported by MRC.
All resources belong first to a single game, then a single category and can be assigned one or more tags. Each resource also is assigned to a game, has an owner (author), title, description, resource relevant fields (published and updated dates, formats and locations), image(s) and finally the links to the resource.
The Details
Continue reading for more detailed information on games, categories, tags, resource fields and other resource content.
Games
MRC works on the premise that users will only search for resources one game at a time. Therefore, no single resource belongs to more than one game. If there is ever a situation where a resource can be used by multiple games, like Mod Organiser 2, there will be separate resource records for each game.
Add a Game!
If you have a favourite game that you would like listed in MRC, for instance Skyrim, FO76, FNV, FO3, Rimworld and you are willing to manage the resources, please contact me to discuss.
Categories
Categories help organise resources into specific groups. A resource can only belong to one category. At the time of this writing, the following categories are available under all games:
- Guides
- Information
- Mod Lists
- Mods and Patches
- Support
- Tools
Please see the Browse Categories page for category descriptions and links to a list of the resources in each category. Unfortunately, the list is not as detailed as the search results and only contains minimal information.
Tags
Every resource is also assigned one or more tags. There are currently 50 tags, too many to list here so see the link below for a full list with descriptions.
Tags are listed at the bottom of each resource and selecting one will bring you to a list of resources with that same tag.
Please see the Browse Tags page for tag descriptions and links to resources assigned to each tag. As with the categories list mentioned above, the tag resource list contains only minimal information.
Resource Fields
Resource fields are custom fields added to the CMS system that contain information associated with resources. The following is a current list of fields as of this writing:
- Game
- Status (WIP, Published)
- Version #
- Publication/Updated dates
- Format (Document, Spreadsheet, Video, Download, Discord Server, Website, Wiki, Forum)
- Link Destination (Discord Server, Google Drive, Youtube, GitHub, Nexus, Website, Wiki)
- Direct and Alternate Links (e.g. Discord Invites) to the resource
- NSFW Flag
It is my hope to include categories, tags and resource fields in the search result filtering system discussed in the Roadmap and Log page
Resource Images
Besides the items listed above, resource pages and search results also contain one of the image types below.
Owner Provided Images
Images either provided by the owner or they have given permission for me to screen grab them.
Search Result images are the same as those used to represent the owner, often their Discord Avatar or Nexus Profile image. These images may also appear in the resource page(s) if the author does not have any resource related images.
Image Pending (Image)
Adding resources to MRC is usually a three step process.
- Find a resource
- Add it to MRC
- Contact the resource owner for permission to host their images
Resources using the Image Pending image, are those where I have not yet received permission from the owner to host their images. Once I get permission, I update the resources accordingly.
Be Aware:
This policy and process came into effect 2023.07.06. Previously, Pending Resources were a thing, they are no more. I used the No Image image (see below) when I didn’t have an image, regardless of the reason. I will be updating the relevant resources over the next month where I will either use the images provided by the owners, the Image Pending or No Image images.
No Image (Image)
Resources with the No Image image, means either the resource owner declined permission to host the image or I was unable to contact them for permission. For example, many popular Youtubers don’t respond to my requests, which while understandable, is a shame.
